We do residential excavation and foundation work. No sales pitch, no commissioned closer: an honest diagnosis, a firm price, and a written warranty we actually honour.
A trade you learn in the hole, not at a desk
Residential excavation is work where experience matters more than a catalogue. Every lot is different: soil type, water table depth, foundation age, buried services, machine access. Two neighbouring houses can call for completely different approaches.
Groupe GZ is built around four specialties that overlap: French drains, crack repair, spray foam insulation and paving stones. That’s not a random bundle: once you open the ground around a foundation, you’re already standing where the other three get solved.
What sets us apart
- No subcontracting on the core work. The crew digging is our crew. Nobody to pass the blame to if something goes wrong.
- Diagnosis before the sale. We inspect and photograph before proposing anything. Sometimes we recommend a minor fix — or none at all.
- A firm, written, itemized price. Every line is costed. Possible surprises are named upfront with their cost, not discovered mid-job.
- Restoration included. Backfill compacted in layers, pavers and sod reinstalled, site cleaned. It’s in the price, not an extra.
- A photo report at the end. You get photos of what was done underground, along with the written warranty. Useful for insurance and at resale.
Licences, insurance and compliance
Groupe GZ holds RBQ licence 5857-6190-01, active liability insurance and a CNESST compliance certificate. These documents are provided on request before work begins — and if any contractor refuses to give them to you, that’s a signal.
We file every job with Info-Excavation before digging, and we obtain the municipal permits required when the work touches the public right-of-way or a sewer connection.
If we can’t solve your problem properly for the price we quoted, we tell you before we start, not after. And if the problem isn’t ours to solve, we point you to the right person.

The call

The inspection
Free on-site visit. Level survey, basement and yard inspection, photos. We show you what we find.
The quote
A detailed line-by-line document, with specified materials, a schedule, and possible surprises costed in advance.
The job
An assigned foreman, a schedule that holds, and a site secured and cleaned every evening. You always know what happens tomorrow.
The handover
Final walkthrough with you, a photo report of the buried work, and a signed written warranty. The yard is restored before we leave.
